Women in Guatemala are thrilled to receive the handmade menstrual product "Kits."
Inside the colorful, hand-sewn bags are pairs of underwear and menstrual pads with protective shields. These can be washed and reused for up to three years!
Where women and school girls stayed home during their periods, and they used pieces of towels or rags during menstruation, or paid a day's earnings for a box of disposable pads, these Kits are an answer to their prayers.
Midwives especially love the Kits because they enable increased cleanliness and prevent Pelvic Inflammatory Disease and vaginal infections. Plus they can be safely reused.
Many volunteers in SW Florida purchase the materials, fabrics, soaps, and underwear. They create hundred of drawstring bags, and they sew the Kits. Here are the Chapel Sew and Sews and the Pelican Preserve Sewers (over 100 volunteers there!)
Plus a big shout out to Deidre in Punta Gorda, Florida who also makes
Post Partum Kits for the midwives. So giving.
Thank you so much for your time and generous donations over the years.
